Capstone Statement of Intent

For my capstone project, I am going to put together a video showing how much devastation as well as negative impact slash-and-burn agriculture has on both the local and global environment. The video will also contain commentary from botanists and other experts on the subject of agriculture and deforestation. Lastly, this video will show the alternatives available that should be used instead of slash-and-burn farming that would not be harmful to the environment or the people living in the areas where this type of agricultural practice takes place.

My capstone project will be conducted as a table presentation in the hallway where judges will come and see my work. I will have a short speech ready to say to them, let them watch my video, and then have a concluding statement for my project. It most likely will not be that long, but it will cover all the important aspects and details concerning slash-and-burn farming.

What I hope to accomplish with my capstone project is to convince governments in African nations as well as those in South American countries to outlaw the use of slash-and-burn farming and implement some of these alternatives such as chop-and-mulch agriculture that would be safer and less harmful for the entire global environment.
